The city’s engineering department plans to close a portion of Michigan Avenue next week to repair a water leak beneath the roadway.
Crews will cut into the road, which was reconstructed in 2012, to repair a lateral connection between a roof drain from P.J. Jacob’s Junior High and the city’s storm sewer. Officials from the school district last month noticed water seeping from under the ground, and later discovered a 20 foot- deep water lateral had been accidentally disconnected during the road’s reconstruction.
Michigan Avenue between College Ave. and Main St. will be closed to thru traffic beginning Tuesday, June 17. Access to the school and municipal pool will remain “as is” during the construction.
Stevens Point Public Works Director Scott Schatschneider said his staff is working with school officials to ensure the project is completed correctly.
The road is expected to reopen Monday, June 23. Motorists are asked to slow down and use caution.
