Sister Leandra Chraca, 97, a Sister of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis for 81 years, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Ministry St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 19, 2014 at St. Joseph Motherhouse Chapel, 1300 Maria Drive, Stevens Point, with the Rev. Todd Mlsna officiating. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Visitation at the convent will begin with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Thursday.
Lottie Chraca was born October 6, 1916 in Chicago, IL, to the late Stanley and Angeline (Slatkowski) Chraca. Later the family moved to Sobieski, WI. She was received into the novitiate of the community at Stevens Point on August 7, 1933, and professed final vows on August 9, 1938.
Sister Leandra devoted 72 years to planning and preparation of meals and baking in convent and hospitals in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. Locally she served at River Pines Sanatorium, Maria/Pacelli High School and St. Joseph Motherhouse, all in Stevens Point. She retired in 2006 and enjoyed tending flowers and plants at the Motherhouse.
Survivors include two sisters, Anna Granadon of Chicago and Maria Revolinski of Suamico, WI. Many nieces and nephews and the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Rose Petterson.
