As members of the public were addressing the Stevens Point Common Council Monday, 3rd District Alderman Michael O’Meara instead focused his attention elsewhere.
While most other Council Members were watching the constituent speaker, O’Meara did not look up from his phone for several minutes Monday night, in one instance missing an entire public comment period.
While some Council Members, including 4th District Alderman Mike Wiza, are at times contacted via cell phone during Council meetings for emergencies connected to their daytime employment, O’Meara is the only City Council Member who seems quite so taken with the technology.
O’Meara has a long history of being distracted by his cell phone during public meetings, as seen here during committee meetings in December:
