The Stevens Point Police & Fire Commission meets Tuesday to prepare for 2015 budget requests and hear an update on the search for a new fire chief.
More than two dozen people have applied for the fire chief position- applications which the Commission will vet itself. The Commission paid $20,000 to a consultant in 2011 to fill the spot, which took three weeks and a nationwide search before hiring for Fire Chief Tracey Kujawa, who was already a member of the Stevens Point Fire Department.
Kujawa left the department in May after being offered a job as fire chief in Wausau. Assistant Fire Chief Bob Finn has been acting as interim chief since her departure.
Both the fire and police departments have an annual budget of about $5 million each.
The Police & Fire Commission meets Tuesday, July 1 at 4 PM in the city conference room, located in the courthouse at 1515 Strongs Avenue. The public is welcome.
