Rafters Out To Sweep The Border Cats
For the City-Times
The first ever meeting between the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (14-26, 2-3) and the Thunder Bay Border Cats (15-25, 1-4) was a memorable one as the Rafters won 7-6 thanks to a walk-off single by Taylor Stell (Texas). These same two teams will go at it again tonight at Witter Field at 7:05pm as the Rafters will be looking for their third straight victory.
Starting for the Rafters tonight will be the flame throwing right handed Zach Jackson (Arkansas, 2-1). Jackson has worked 18.2 innings on the season and has an ERA of 4.33, but he has been a strikeout machine as he has recorded 30 strikeouts compared to only 13 walks and 12 hits allowed. If Jackson has his control on point, it will be a long night for the Border Cats as Jackson is one of the most electric pitchers in the Northwoods League.
Taylor Stell looks to build off of his impressive return to the Rafters, which included going three for five along with the walk-off single that gave the Rafters the victory. This was Stell’s first game in almost 11 months due to a knee injury and he showed no rust as he was the difference maker for the Rafters. Cullen Gassaway (Arkansas) also got it going last night as he reached base in all four of his plate appearances with two hits and two walks, including an RBI single.
Tonight the gates open at 6:05pm as the first pitch here at Witter Field is at 7:05pm. Tonight there will also be a very special guest as Heartland Farms presents Agriculture Appreciation Night with the one and only Whiplash the Cowboy Monkey making an apperance.
