The Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office reports a single- truck accident on Monday closed off County Highway Y for most of the day. The truck was carrying several containers of acid.
The 911 call reporting an overturned truck on the roadway came into the Portage Co. Communications Center about 9:45 AM. Upon arrival crews discovered the truck was blocking both lanes of traffic. No injuries were reported.
Several acid containers the truck was carrying had been thrown from the crash, but none of those were compromised. One container of iodine was leaking and was later cleaned up by an environmental contractor. The sheriff’s office reports no residents were endangered by any of the chemicals.
Along with the sheriff’s office, Town of Hull Fire and EMS units and responders from Portage County’s Hazardous Materials Team, Ambulance Service, Traffic Incident Management Team, and Highway Department responded to the scene. The road reopened around 6:30 PM.
