Letter: Choose Me for School Board

To the Editor-

Dear (School) Board Members,

I am writing this today to ask for your support for appointment to the open School Board member position.

I believe that I am up to date on many of the issues that face the Stevens Point School District in the upcoming year.

I am a firm believer that the board needs to focus on the very important issues related to the future of the children of the district instead of wasting so much time and energy on petty bickering. We must regain the support and the respect of the community, as well as the employees of the district.

We must finalize contracts for all employee groups that have no current contract. We must form policies that must be adhered to by all supervisors regarding employee relations, work hours, and schedules. We need to build into these policies an awareness for certain exceptions necessary to further the public good. We must decide on the future leadership of the district, by either looking at advertising for a Superintendent or District Administrator, or deciding on a management team as we go forward. Only once those things are accomplished can we take a hard look at our future budget.

Regardless on how we proceed we must hold whoever is put in the leadership position to the set policies of the school board. Also the chosen leader needs to be required to provide information to the board in a timely matter as much as possible.

The way that I believe we can accomplish the above goals, is to treat all other board members with the same dignity and respect that we expect from others. We do not need to like each other or agree with each other, but we need to listen with an open mind and respectful attitude to other opinions and voice our own opinions with the confidence that we will also be heard and respected. We need to use common sense in our approach to board decorum.

I believe that I can help to facilitate this decorum and be a voice of reason for the district.

We need to show the children of the Stevens Point School District that their dreams have no limitations. They are our future after all.

Let’s take this district forward and make education in the Stevens Point area the priority for this day and the future.

I would very much like to be part of the solution for the district going forward.

Sincerely,

Samuel L. Levin
