The Stevens Point Area Public School Board on Monday will decide which of four applicants will become its 9th member.
Four individuals have applied to fill the vacant seat on the board. Sam Levin, Meg Erler, Patricia Hetzel, and Kevin Ruder have all applied for the spot, which was vacated when former Board Member Renae Sheibley resigned earlier this year.
Levin is a former members of the Village of Whiting Board of Trustees and Portage Co. Board of Supervisors, and has run for the School Board unsuccessfully three times in the past. Erler previously served on the Portage County Board of Supervisors and as well as the Village of Plover Board of Trustees.
Patricia Hetzel also previously ran for the School Board, and currently works in disability services at UWSP. Ruder, a 26 year- veteran of law enforcement, is the Stevens Point Police Chief.
The School Board will meet with and interview applicants, voting for their choice Monday.
Whomever the board chooses to fill Sheibley’s spot will serve on the board through next April’s election. School board members are paid about $3,600 each year.
The School Board meets Monday night at 6:30 PM at Bliss Educational Services Center, 1900 Polk Street. The public is welcome.
