Senior Spotlight at Lincoln Center

Lincoln Center offers classes and activities for older adults. The Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Portage County is a one-stop resource for services for seniors, adults with disabilities, their families and caregivers.

Open Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For information call 715-346-1401 or 1-866-920-2525, or on the Web: www.co.portage.wi.us/adrc. The ADRC Nutrition Program serves noon lunch at these dining sites and days: Lincoln Center (Mon. – Fri.), Hi-Rise Manor (Mon. – Fri.), Jensen Center in Amherst (Mon., Wed., Fri.), Plover Municipal Center (Tues., Thurs.), Junction City Village Park Lodge (Tues., Thurs.), and Faith Lutheran Church in Rosholt (Mon. – Fri.).

AARP Driver Safety is scheduled this Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This four hour refresher course from American Association of Retired Persons is designed for drivers age 50 and over to help them understand and adapt to the effects of aging on driving. Pre-registration required. Please call the ADRC for more information.

This week’s RSVP volunteer opportunity:

The ADRC Driver Escort Program is recruiting drivers to transport people to medical appointments. Reimbursement is $.56 per mile. With this flexible assignment, volunteer drivers can agree to drive whenever it is convenient for them.  Please contact RSVP staff for more information.

Unless noted otherwise, the following take place at Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street.

Dining site bingo and special events are after the noon luncheon unless otherwise noted.

Monday, July 21

7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.: Walking Club.

8 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Pottery.

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Pool tables open play; basic computer training; resistance chair exercise.

9:45 a.m.: Yoga, chair, session 3.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: The Holly Shoppe open.

10:50 a.m.: Yoga, intermediate, session 3.

11:30 a.m.: Music by Agnes Mallek.

1 p.m.: Bridge; scrabble.

Lunch menu: Ham salad on a whole grain bun, cream of vegetable soup, citrus black bean salad, strawberries.

Old Timers Band (11:30) and bingo at Amherst senior dining site; bingo at Lincoln Center senior dining site.

Tuesday, July 22

7:30 – 8:30 a.m.: Walking Club.

8:30 a.m.: Seniorobics.

9 a.m.: Pool tables open play.

10 a.m.: Fun & Fit exercise; The Holly Shoppe open.

10:30 a.m.: Chair massage.

11 a.m.: Arthritis Foundation exercise.

11:30 a.m.: Music by Marilyn Peterson.

1 – 3 p.m.: Parkinson support group.

3 – 4 p.m.: Walking Club.

Lunch menu: BBQ pork riblet, hash brown casserole, confetti coleslaw, slice of bread, chocolate peanut butter square.

Wednesday, July 23

7:30 – 8:30 a.m.: Walking Club.

9 – 11 a.m.: Cribbage.

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Pool tables open play; basic computer training, resistance chair exercise.

10 a.m.: The Holly Shoppe open.

1 p.m.: Pinochle; visually impaired support group (VIP).

11:30 a.m.: Music by Dennis Surna.

1:00 p.m.: Pinochle

Lunch menu: Breaded catfish, green bean casserole, 7 layer salad, slice of bread, fresh grapes.

Presentation on Salads by Mary Higley, UW-Extension.

Bingo at Amherst senior dining site; Games Day at Lincoln Center senior dining site.

Thursday, July 24

7:30 – 8:30 a.m.: Walking Club.

8 a.m.: Pottery.

8:30 a.m.: Seniorobics.

9 a.m. – 3 p.m: AARP driver safety class.

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Pool tables open play.

9:30 a.m.: Foot care clinic; open knitting.

10 a.m.: Blood pressure screening; Fun & Fit exercise;

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: The Holly Shoppe open.

11 a.m.: Arthritis Foundation exercise.

11:30 a.m.: Music by the Potocki Family Band.

1 p.m.: Open crocheting; round dancing.
2 p.m.: Square dancing.

3 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Walking Club.
Lunch menu: Beef/pork chop suey with oriental vegetables, steamed whole grain rice, peas and carrots, banana.

Round Table Crafters (10 a.m.) and bingo at Plover senior dining site.

Friday, July 25

7:30 – 8:30 a.m.: Walking Club.

9 a.m. – 4 p.m.: Pool tables open play.

10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: The Holly Shoppe open.

11:30 a.m.: Music by Roger Nelson.

12 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Resistance chair exercise.

1 p.m.: Duplicate bridge.

1:30 – 3:30 p.m.: Wii bowling.

Lunch menu:  Turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, whole grain dinner roll, lemon bar.

Bingo at Amherst and Lincoln Center senior dining sites.

Saturday, July 26

11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Holly Shoppe open.
