Director of Community Development Michael Ostowski said a newly- lifted moratorium on state- level historic tax credits will mean good things for Stevens Point.

Gov. Scott Walker announced on Monday the tax credit program had been reinstated by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation. The program assists municipalities restore historic properties.

Ostrowski said several historic properties in the downtown area have used funds from the city’s Historic Facade Renovation Grant, and with state tax credits back in play, even more business owners and developers will step forward with redevelopment ideas.

“I think its great news that they’re willing to extend the tax credits even further, upping that percentage to help business owners and developers rehabilitate these historic structures is needed,” Ostrowski said.
