Barbara J. Shippy, age 60 of Stevens Point, passed away Thursday July 17, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family and under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. Barb has been fighting a courageous three year battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life service for Barb will be held at 3:30 PM on Tuesday July 22, 2014 at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 1:00 PM on Tuesday, until the time of services at the funeral chapel. A memorial in lieu of flowers will be established.
Barb was born June 12, 1954 in Wausau, the daughter of Ralph “Chum” and Betty (McArthur) Mattson. She grew up in Wausau, before the family moved to Stevens Point before her senior year in high school. Barb graduated from SPASH in 1972, and shortly after began working at the Sears store in downtown Stevens Point. She married Peter Shippy on December 8, 1973 in Stevens Point. Barb worked at Sears for over 20 years until the store closed. After taking one day off, Barb began her career at the Valley Community Credit Union, where she has been the past 20 years, retiring in March due to health issues. Barb and Pete enjoyed traveling, especially their February trips to Punta Cana. She also enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, and visiting the casino.
Barb is survived by her husband Peter, and their two children: Seth Shippy, Stevens Point and Mandy Rouse, Stevens Point. One grandson Evan Rouse. 3 sisters: Lynda Mihaljevic, Denver; Mary Beth (Denis) Mattson- Hinzelin, Pringy, France; Laura Mattson, Scottsville, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Patrick.
