Gladys Lucille Furo of Junction City, who recently celebrated 100 years of living, was called home to be with her Lord and family on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Bethel Center in Arpin.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 with Rev. Dr. Timothy W. Roser officiating.  Burial will be at the Runkel Cemetery in the Town of Eau Pleine, Portage County. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Friday until time of service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Junction City.

Martens/Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family in arrangements.

Gladys was born June 2, 1914, in the Town of Eau Pleine to George and Anne (Borth- Buelow) Wolfe.  She married Emil A. Furo, on October 25, 1933 in Junction City.  They had 61 loving years until the time of Emil’s passing on December 9, 1994.  Together they farmed in the Town of Eau Pleine until retiring in 1977 and moved into Junction City.  Gladys worked various housekeeping jobs after retirement from the farm. Gladys also volunteered for many church related orginizations including Bethesda Resale Shops.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Junction City.  Prior to her illness she was an active member and leader in the Ladies Aide.  In her younger years she belonged to the North County Line Homemakers and was a Wood County 4-H leader.  She enjoyed baking and was well known for her homemade breads and pies.  She also was an avid quilter making quilts for family and friends and the different missions.  She enjoyed sharing stories about “the old days” growing up in the lumberjack camp with her parents and family and the hard times they endured.

Gladys is survived by daughter-in-law Marlene Furo;  grandchildren, Karen (Joe) Bonnstetter, Theresa  (Mark) Hamus, Rhonda (Merlyn) Reigel, Ronald Furo, Kim (Brian) Simcakoski, Tom (Amy) Furo,  LeeAnne (Phil) Pesanka,  John Furo,  Sherry Schnabel and LuAnn Jensen; great grandchildren, Chad (Megan) Walhood, Laura and Bethany Bonnstetter, Tyler and Nicole Simcakoski, Calvin (Megan) Hamus, Collin Hamus,  Rachel (Justin) Wilke, Audrey and Kolby Pesanka, Rubi Furo, Patrick and Michael Schnabel. Gladys was proud to be a five-generation family with three great great granddaughters, Savannah, Brooklyn and Charlotte Wilke.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Emil, son George, daughter Carolyn Stoflet and a grandson George L Furo.  She was the last surviving sibling in the extended Buelow / Wolfe and Furo family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the St. Paul’s Ladies Aide of Junction City.  The family would like to thank Bethel Center for the care given to Gladys where she had been a resident since March 2010.

Condolences may be sent online to www.rembsfh.com
