Darlene K. Okray, age 75, of the Township of Linwood passed away Monday July 21, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday July 25, 2014 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Rev Thomas Lindner will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. The St. Peters Rosary Society of which she was a member will lead a Rosary for Darlene at 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral chapel. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 9:30 AM to the time of services at the church.
Darlene was born June 13, 1939 in Stevens Point, the daughter of Steven and Esther (Osowski) Rutta. She graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1958 and shortly after moved to Milwaukee, where she worked at Briggs & Stratton. She returned to the area and married Richard “Dick” Okray on August 13, 1960 at St. Peters Catholic Church. The couple settled in the township of Linwood and raised three children. Darlene worked at the River Pines Nursing Home for 10 years before her retirement. She enjoyed NASCAR, the Grand Ole Opry, watching TV, the outdoors, and the Green Bay Packers. She loved cats, especially her favorite “Spook”.
Darlene is survived by her husband Richard; and their three children: Debbie (Ken) Napiwocki Okray, Stevens Point; Donna (Terry) Johnson, Stratford; Rick (Kris) Okray, Greenwood. Eight grandchildren: Kenny, Aimee, Andrea, Erica, Christopher, Brandon, Hayden, and Morgan, and her great grandson Jackson, her brother; Eugene Rutta, Rosholt, and two sister-in-laws; Rosemary Pliska and Linda Rutta, and her cat “Spook”. She was preceded in death by her parents Steven and Ester, her brothers Tom and Fred and sister Donna in infancy.
