Celebrate Community & Farmers During National Farmers Market Week, Aug. 3-9
For the City-Times
National Farmers Market week is a fantastic time to make a trip to your local market.According to the USDA, it is a time to celebrate the 8,100+ farmers markets across the United States, the farmers who make them possible and the communities that host them. The bright colors, cheerful sounds and sense of community at farmers markets bring joy to those who visit and create a whirlwind of excitement and learning opportunities for people of all ages. It is a place to learn from market vendors and neighbors about seasonality, local produce, cooking, farming, community and so much more.
With the growing season in full swing, there are a bounty of items available at farmers markets across central Wisconsin. Products currently available include: blueberries, raspberries, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, corn, onions, garlic, broccoli, cabbage, potatoes, herbs, flowers, meat, eggs, bread, jam, honey, maple syrup and more. When you shop at the farmers market, you not only support your local producers and keep money in your local economy, you also learn about where your food comes from and how it is grown.
