Road Work Near Rib Mountain State Park to Begin
For the City-Times
Visitors to Rib Mountain State Park in Wausau will notice some heavy equipment working on park roads beginning about the first week of August. Some badly deteriorated roads through the park will be removed and replaced over the summer and into October.
All roads through the park will remain open during the construction, though they may be reduced in places and there could be very short closures for moving large equipment. All events will continue as planned for this summer, including the final Concerts in the Clouds on Saturday, August 9.
“This is a much needed improvement for the park and when completed our visitors will have a much smoother ride through the park,” said Bill Bursaw, park manager.
The project includes removing and pulverizing the existing asphalt, realigning some roads and walking paths, then grading and repaving with new asphalt and installing new traffic signs and road markings. The project also includes installation of a new unisex vault bathroom building, installation of a new park entrance sign, and removal of three older buildings at the park.
“We are really excited for these upgrades to the park. The new park entrance road and walking path that were installed several years ago improved the access to the park and have been attracting many hikers and bicyclists. These additional improvements will carry that improved flow through our entire park,” Bursaw said.
