The first meeting of the Stevens Point School Board Human Resources (HR) Committee has been rescheduled to August 18.
The meeting was originally scheduled for August 4, but Chairwoman Kim Shirek had to reschedule the meeting due to a previously planned vacation.
In July Shirek said one of the first things she wanted the committee to address were administrator contracts. Shirek has been consistently critical of Superintendent Attila Weninger’s relationship with the teacher’s union, saying the lack of progress on teacher contacts wasn’t fair to employees. She made the comments as the board was discussing refilling the vacant principal position at McKinley Elementary.
“I’d like to start going through each contact starting with this one,” Shirek said, indicating the contract.
August 18 marks the first HR Committee meeting since April of 2013, when members of the board eliminated committees citing poor communication and lack of full board involvement on committee issues. Some argue that move set the stage for longer-than-usual board meetings, which eventually become so lengthy city officials refused to continue airing the meetings on Community Access Television.
The board reinstated committees this past June. The meeting agenda and packet will be available on Thursday, Aug. 14.
The Human Resources Committee will meet at 6:30 PM on Monday, August 18 at Bliss Educational Service Center, 1900 Polk Street. The meeting is open to the public.
