Ronald M. Berna, 80

Layout FlagRonald M. Berna, age 80 of Rosholt, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 2, 2014 at Wausau Manor. 

Services for Ronald will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday August 6, 2014 at Shuda Funeral Chapel Stevens Point. The Rev. Marcin Mankowski will officiate. Friends and family will gather to share memories from 4 – 7 PM Tuesday August 5, 2014 and from 10 AM until the time of service on Wednesday at the Shuda Funeral Chapel – Stevens Point. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Sacred Heart parish cemetery with full military honors. 

Ronald was born on November 22, 1933 in Stevens Point, the son of Edward and Agnes (Lemancik) Berna.
He attended P.J. Jacobs High School and then moved to Milwaukee and worked for Briggs and Stratton until his enlistment in the US army in 1955. He married Debbie Oikawa on May 23, 1957 in Hokkaido Japan. She died June 11, 2011.

In 1957, Ronald joined the Airborne special forces and was a Green Beret for sixteen years in which his distinguished career included three tours of Vietnam and 602 parachute jumps. Following his honorable discharge he lived in Boston Massachusetts until 1985 when he moved to the Rosholt area where he farmed for seventeen years. 

Ronald had many hobbies which included his volunteer services transporting veterans over one million miles to different hospitals. He especially enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He also loved fishing, bowling, trips to the casino and attending Old Geezer breakfasts on Thursday.

Ronald is survived by his sisters; Shirley Brozik of Amherst and Bette (Patrick) Maslowski of Stevens Point and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife Debbie, sister Rita Seyferth and his parents. Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.shudafuneral.com
