Gene O. Watters, age 83, of Plover, died at home on August 5, 2014 with his family by his side.

Gene was born August 8, 1930 to the late John and Ora (Neff) Watters in Wood River, NE. He grew up in Shelton, NE and attended the local schools.  Gene later attended Platte Valley Academy, Union College; White Memorial- Loma Linda College; and Bryon Memorial Hospital. He graduated as a Laboratory and Radiology Technologist.

Gene worked as a Lab and X-Ray Technician- 10 years of service in Gunnison, CO and 20 years of service in Brawley CA. He also worked in numerous hospitals and clinics within the surrounding areas of Gunnison and Brawley.

Gene met the love of his life, when he was admitted to a hospital with a broken leg. He met his future wife, Lois, who was the primary attending nurse; and Lois took great care of him. …When Gene asked Lois to marry him, he asked if she would be his nurse forever. -They were married on August 12, 1949.

Gene will be remembered for his love of family and his dedication to his faith. He had been a Deacon and Elder man with churches in Merced, CA, Gunnison, CO, and Brawley, CA. He was an active Sabbath School Teacher and active in prison ministry. Gene also enjoyed nature and wildlife. He enjoyed camping, treasure hunting, prospecting, and photography.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Watters; children, Marilyn (Darrell) Brown, Dennis (Carol) Watters, Edwin Watters, John Watters, Kenny Watters, and Bonnie (Ryan) Lewallan; brother, George (Loreine) Watters; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and many extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and 4 brothers.

A Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor David Guerrero officiating. Visitation will also be held at the church on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial will follow the service in Plover Cemetery.
