Police: Highway 54 Reopened

Local law enforcement has reopened access to Highway 54 in Plover following what’s being described as “an incident” by Plover police.
The Plover Police Department, along with the Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office and State Patrol had closed the roadway around 7:30 Friday night following an incident which resulted in one person begin airlifted for medical treatment. The nature of the incident is not known but it was not an auto accident, and Plover police said in a statement the incident was a “critical” one.
“We will keep the community updated as more information becomes available,” the statement read. Law enforcement is not releasing any further details at this time.
Several eyewitnesses on the scene reported hearing multiple gunshots from Highway 54 south in the direction of the intersection at County Highway B and Post Road. Law enforcement would not confirm or deny any shots being fired.
The roadway was reopened Saturday morning around 5 AM.
