Police on Monday confirm two different gas stations were robbed around 8:30 AM. BP gas station, 3209 Church St., reported second robbery in the past 30 days, and Mobil gas station on West Clark Street also reported being robbed around the same time.
Police pursued a suspect on Michigan Avenue, leading to the temporary closure of the roadway between Delaney Court and Heffron Street.
The roadway was reopened by 9:30 AM.
Eyewitnesses on the scene say an unknown suspect entered the store this morning and demanded cash. Whether the suspect was armed- or whether police have an individual in custody- in unknown.
Johnson’s Towing was on the scene to impound a small red pickup truck from Michigan Avenue.
This location of BP was also robbed in late June, when a male suspect got away with an unknown sum of cash from a late night robbery.
Stevens Point Police would not comment on the event, but Sgt. Joe Wheeler said the department will send out a press release sometime Monday morning with additional information.
“We’re just in the very early stages of this right now,” Wheeler said.
The Wisconsin State Patrol and Portage Co. Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
