Letter: Lukas Thanks Voters
To the Editor-
Thank you – all of you – who energized our campaign for Portage County Sheriff. You worked the streets handing out literature; You wrote letters and post cards of support to your friends and neighbors; You decorated your lawns with our yard signs; You sent us dollars for advertising. You are truly the “grass roots” of our successful campaign.
And, thank you all, over 3,000 of you who defied the low vote prediction and made it to the polls on Tuesday.
But, equally THANK YOU three other Sheriff candidates – Kevin Sorenson, Jim Grubba, Rob Golla. Together we maintained a civil tone for the campaign discourse. We stated our issue differences. We did not go “negative”, attacking personalities, shouting half-truths, and outright lies. Ours was a model discussion in this era of noisy, negative campaign nonsense.
I pledge to all of you — my management of the Sheriff’s Office will echo our campaign commitments: professionalism, fairness, integrity, and community. For that you may hold me responsible for the next four years as Sheriff.
Mike Lukas, Sheriff-Elect
Portage County
*Editor’s Note: Lukas will not be the Sheriff-Elect until the General Election in November, and even then only if he is not defeated by any potential write-in candidate.
