LeRoy was born May 24, 1930 in Vesper, the son of Herman and Katherine (Kreppil) Heiser. He graduated from Vesper High School, and earned his education degree from UW-Stevens Point. He went on to UW-Madison and earned his masters degree in administration. LeRoy taught school in Tomah for two years before returning to the Central Wisconsin Area. He married Phyllis Schmick on August 9, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church in Wisconsin Rapids. The couple settled in Stevens Point and LeRoy began teaching and administrating at McDill School. He became Director of Human Resources for the Stevens Point School System and retired in 1992.
LeRoy was a very giving person. He coached youth basketball and volunteered at elementary schools and at St. Michaels Hospital. LeRoy was an avid gardener, and shared his produce with family, friends, and local food pantries. He served as an usher at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and as a member of the plan committee for the Village of Whiting. LeRoy was past president of the Rotary Club and was named Paul Harris Fellow.
LeRoy was an avid high school and college sports fan. He attended many SPASH and Pointer basketball games over the years. He also enjoyed dancing (having originally met his wife at a dance), traveling, attending theatre, and dining out with friends and his beloved wife. They recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. LeRoy will be dearly missed by family, friends, and colleagues.
