City Councilwoman Passes Away

Stevens Point City Councilwoman Joanne Suomi of District 2 has passed away.
Suomi was a vocal proponent of various issues facing the city and affecting her district near the campus of UW-Stevens Point. She was largely responsible for bringing attention to parking problems in the city, as well as expanding insurance coverage to domestic partners of city employees. She was also a strong proponent of the environment and public education.
Suomi has been ill for several months before she died on September 2. Funeral arrangements are pending with Shuda Funeral Home.
