The Chamber Orchestra Kremlin will open the UW-Stevens Point Performing Arts Series on Thursday, Oct. 9.

For the City-Times

What do a Russian orchestra, humor writer, Mexican dancer, brass band and Irish music group have in common? All offer rare entertainment experiences as part of the 2014-15 University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Performing Arts Series.

Presented in part by Country Inn and Suites of Stevens Point and Sentry Insurance, the series includes five performances during the academic year, held at UW-Stevens Point and at Sentry’s [email protected] All performances are at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for each show are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $6 for youth. UW-Stevens Point students with ID may buy tickets in advance for $4.50 or be admitted free the day of the show if seats remain. Tickets may be purchased through the University Information and Tickets Office in the Dreyfus University Center concourse, 715-346-4100 or 800-838-3378, or at http://tickets.uwsp.edu.

The 2014-15 series will feature:

· Chamber Orchestra Kremlin, Thursday, Oct. 9, Michelsen Hall, Noel Fine Arts Center
Founded in 1991 by music director Misha Rachlevsky, the orchestra is comprised of Russia’s finest young string players. The group’s warmth and high energy create memorable performances that stay with listeners long after the last note has been played.

· David Sedaris, Tuesday, Oct. 28, Laird Room, Dreyfus University Center
With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, Sedaris uses cultural euphemisms and political correctness as one of the most observant humor writers in America. His personal essay collection includes “Me Talk Pretty One Day” and “Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owl.”

· Tania Perez-Salas, Tuesday, Nov. 11, [email protected], Sentry Insurance
Tania Perez-Salas has fast become Mexico’s premiere contemporary choreographer. Her internationally celebrated Compañía de Danza, based in Mexico City, has toured worldwide.

· Presidio Brass, Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, Michelsen Hall, Noel Fine Arts Center
Combining a brass quintet, piano and percussion instruments with fresh, original arrangements, the distinctive sound of Presidio Brass has captivated audiences worldwide.

· Kennedy’s Kitchen, Saturday, March 7, 2015, Michelsen Hall, Noel Fine Arts Center
Kennedy’s Kitchen has been making Irish music together since 1998, averaging 80 shows a year. Based in South Bend, Ind., the group has traveled across the United States with music rooted in traditional Irish jigs, reels, hornpipes, aires, recitations, stories and songs.
