North Central Region Road Construction Update

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) provides a weekly update on road construction in North Central Wisconsin, which includes: Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood counties.
Construction-related traffic impacts are subject to change and are dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction status.
Green Lake County
Highway: WIS 44 (*updated*)
Location: School Street (Manchester) to Grand River bridge (Markesan)
Schedule: August 18 to October 31, 2014
Cost: $870,000
Description: Crews will mill the existing roadway and resurface it with new asphalt. Crews will also repair storm sewer and drainage, replace culvert pipe, install new signing and pavement markings and replace guardrail at the Grand River bridge.

Schedule: April 21 to late November 2014

Traffic impacts:
- Beginning Monday, September 22, access to WIS 23 from North Lawson Street on the south side of WIS 23 will be permanently closed.
- WIS 23 (County A west to WIS 49) is closed until late November 2014. Traffic is detoured via WIS 73, County K, and County A.
- Northbound and southbound traffic at the WIS 49 and County A intersection is shifted to the east side of WIS 49.
- The Puchyan River Bridge (WIS 23) is closed to all traffic.
- The WIS 49/County A intersection will remain open to traffic with a four-way stop during all stages of construction.
- Local access to properties and businesses will be maintained.
Langlade County
Highway: WIS 64
Location: Lincoln County line to Zima Road (Antigo)
Schedule: August 4 to September 30, 2014
Cost: $1.6 million
Description: Crews will mill 11.45 miles of pavement and replace it with new asphalt. Crews will also make repairs and add an anti-skid surface to two bridges. Guard rail along the project will be updated and centerline rumble strips will be installed.
Traffic impacts: WIS 64 will remain open during construction. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures, flagging operations, a 12-foot width restriction, and temporary traffic signals.
Lincoln County
Highway: WIS 64
Location: County W (Merrill) to Langlade County Line (Antigo)
Schedule: September 15 to October 13, 2014
Cost: $1.6 million
Description: Crews will resurface WIS 64 and replace the existing guardrail to meet current design standards. One bridge along the project will receive an epoxy overlay.
Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures, flagging operations and temporary traffic signals.
Marathon County
Highway: I-39 (*updated*)
Location: I-39 bridges at the WIS 153 interchange (Mosinee)
Schedule: September 3 to October 30, 2015
Cost: $3.4 million
Description: Crews will remove and reconstruct the new concrete bridge decks and parapet walls, new guardrail and some pavement replacement on I-39. Improvements also include repairing the concrete slope paving under the bridges and some minor repairs to the median along WIS 153

Traffic impacts: WIS 153 (under the I-39 bridge) is reduced to one lane in each direction until mid-November. Motorists can expect to encounter shoulder and median closures on I-39.
Highway: WIS 29
Location: WIS 107 and Martin Lane, Marathon City
Schedule: September 8 to October 29, 2014
Cost: $517,000
Description: Crews will replace the existing pavement about 40 feet east and 60 feet to the west of the bridges. Improvements include some work on the bridge abutments.
Traffic Impacts: WIS 29 will remain open during construction. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained throughout construction.

Location: I-39/Business 51 interchange (Rothschild)
Schedule: August 25, 2014 to late 2015
Cost: $12.2 million
Description: Crews will reconstruct all I-39/Business 51 interchange ramps, reconstruct Business 51 between Village Way and Eagle Nest Boulevard, realign Morrison Avenue with the southbound I-39 ramps, reconstruct the Cedar Creek bridge, construct pedestrian and bicycle accommodations along Business 51 and construct an off-road, multi-use path along northbound Business 51 between Village Way to Stoney Rivers Drive.
Traffic impacts:
- The multi-use path is closed at the Cedar Creek bridge until Friday, September 26. No alternate route is posted.
- Business 51 is closed from County XX to Eagle Nest Boulevard until mid-November 2014. Business 51 traffic will be detoured via Imperial Avenue, Stoney Rivers Drive, and Eagle Nest Boulevard. Foremost Drive will use a temporary roadway and southbound Stoney Rivers Drive will be reduced to one lane.
- During the week of September 22, motorists can expect nighttime, single lane closures on southbound and northbound I-39. When the lanes are closed, the speed will be reduced to 55 MPH.
- During the week of September 22, crews are planning to close the northbound I-39 off-ramp for one night. Traffic will be detoured via I-39 and WIS 29.

Location: Bridges over Porky Creek and the Big Eau Pleine River, east of Abbotsford
Schedule: July 7 to October 6, 2014

Traffic impacts: WIS 29 will remain open to traffic. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures on westbound WIS 29.

Description: Crews will replace the pavement on eastbound and westbound WIS 29 and replace the bridge decks of the structures located over the Wisconsin River and Business 51. Crews will also raise the Sunrise Drive overpass and repair the overpass’ bridge deck.

Location: Kent Street to Division Street

Description: Crews will mill the existing pavement and replace it with new asphalt. The existing lighting system will be replaced, bicycle accommodations will be provided and the existing corrugated median will be removed.

Traffic impacts: Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures between Sturgeon Eddy Road and Division Street. Both outside lanes of Business 51 are closed between Sturgeon Eddy Road and Division Street.

Traffic impacts:
- Motorists can expect to encounter 5 to 20 minute closures of US 51, weekdays at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., while crews complete blasting operations.
- The on-ramp to northbound US 51 from County K is closed through Saturday, November 1. Traffic is detoured via Business 51, Merrill Avenue/County U, Overlook Drive, County K, and County WW.
- Motorists on northbound and southbound US 51 can expect to encounter single lane closures.
- The speed limit on US 51 is reduced to 55 MPH between Bridge Street and Decator Drive.
- Northbound US 51 traffic, exiting to County K/Business 51, is detoured via the northbound US 51 off-ramp to County U, and Merrill Avenue/County U.
- The eastbound and westbound lanes of County K (Business 51) under the US 51 bridges are closed until early October 2014. During the closure, traffic is detoured via County U and Overlook Drive.
- The on-ramp to southbound US 51 from County K is closed until early October 2014.
Oneida County
Highway: US 51 (*updated*)
Location: Old Hwy 70 (Minocqua) to 3rd Avenue (Woodruff)
Schedule: March 31 mid-October 2014
Cost: $4.6 million
Description: Crews will reconstruct the intersections of WIS 70 west and County J to include additional turn lanes and new traffic signals; install new street lighting; reconstruct the roadway with new asphalt pavement and curb and gutter, replace storm, sanitary and water lines.

- Motorists on US 51 can expect to encounter one lane in each direction and flagging operations.
- Crews will continue to work on the local and county systems in the Minocqua/Woodruff area throughout September and October.
- Motorists on Townline Road and US 51 near US 51, can expect single lane closures and flagging operations.
- Motorists may encounter traffic impacts on County J and Packing Plant Road.
Shawano County
Highway: WIS 22
Location: County BE intersection, in the city of Shawano
Schedule: August 11 to September 30, 2014
Cost: $260,000
Description: Crews will reconstruct the intersection of WIS 22 and County BE to improve safety.
Traffic Impacts: During construction, WIS 22 will remain open to traffic. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures, flagging operations and some delays.
Waupaca County
Highway: WIS 54 (*updated*)
Location: West Fulton Street and County Road QQ intersection, Waupaca
Schedule: September 3 to November 2014
Description: Crews will reconstruct the intersection.
Traffic Impacts: WIS 54 will remain open during construction. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures and flagging operations. Grand Seasons Drive is closed to semi-truck traffic and is currently scheduled to re-open as early as Monday, September 29.
Waushara County
Highway: I-39
Location: Bridges along I-39, in the village of Coloma
Schedule: September 22, 2014 to November 2015
Cost: $2.5 million
Description: Crews will improve three bridges along I-39: two over Waushara County CH; and the WIS 21 bridge over I-39.
Traffic Impacts: Motorists on I-39 can expect to encounter single lane closures. No traffic impacts will take place on WIS 21 until spring 2015.
Wood County
Highway: WIS 80 (*updated*)
Location: Owl Creek bridge (Babcock) and Dexterville Ditch bridge (Pittsville)
Schedule: August 11 to October 7, 2014
Description: Crews will construct new bridge decks and approaches.
Traffic Impacts: WIS 80 will remain open during construction. Motorists can expect to encounter single lane closures and temporary signals at the bridges. The south intersection of Town Hall Road is closed throughout construction. Access will be provided to the north intersection.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution in the work zone and should be prepared to encounter slow moving trucks. Motorists should slow down, use caution and stay alert when driving through construction zones. To avoid delays, consider taking an alternative route and avoid peak travel periods.
