Hunger & Poverty Prevention Partnership Seeking Saturday Volunteers
For the City-Times
Glean Central Wisconsin is a committee of the Portage County Hunger and Poverty Prevention Partnership (HPPP). This includes a network of citizens, organizations, and farmers who are united in a common goal of eliminating hunger and food waste in central Wisconsin.
“Gleaning” is an effort to collect edible, but not sell-able food, and then donate this produce to local food pantries such as The Salvation Army’s Hope Center, Interfaith Food Pantry, and other area food pantries. Gleaning efforts take place at the Stevens Point Farmers’ Market every Saturday during the market season.
There are two volunteer opportunities, one in the morning from 8am to 10am, and one in the afternoon from 1pm to 3pm.
