NEW Column: Rural Wisconsin Today
*Editor’s Note: The Stevens Point City-Times has reached out to the Portage Co. Democratic Party on a number of occasions to request regular submissions for publication on any number of issues relating to local and state government. To date the PCDP has turned down the offer. The following is one man’s opinion; the views expressed here do not represent those of the City-Times staff- except for the prediction that the Green Bay Packers will beat Miami on Sunday.
By Peter Liakopoulos, Special to the City-Times
In this first article as a way of introduction, I thought it would be appropriate to give you a little background. I was born in Chicago and I’m a lifelong Republican who loves hunting, fishing, the Packers and this nation. I have been a radio show host since 1998 and I have had TV shows in Nevada and have written outdoor and political articles for many newspapers and magazines since 1995. My wife and I currently live in Wisconsin Rapids.
The Rural Shows air in Las Vegas as Rural Nevada Today on K-DWN AM 720 on Saturday mornings from 6:00-7:00 am. Rural Wisconsin Today airs on W-FHR AM 1320 in Wisconsin Rapids Monday-Friday from 3:00-4:00 pm.
The shows as well as this article are based on the fact that all true wealth as well as the building blocks of this great nation start in the rural areas of our country. In short all true wealth comes from the ground it is either grown or mined. We are the stewards of the Wild. It is our unalienable right to hunt, fish and own firearms and use the land to create wealth. Government should stay out of our lives and be as small as possible. As the Stewards of the Wild, animals are a gift from God for us to do with as see fit.
Genesis Chapter 1:24-25-26:
The God said, “Let the earth bring forth all kinds of living creatures: cattle, creeping things and wild animals of kind.” And so it happened. God made all kinds of animals and all kinds of cattle, and all kinds of creeping things on earth, God saw it was good. Then God said, “Let us make man in our own image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish in the seas, the birds in the air, and the cattle and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.”
Genesis Chapter 27:3
Take your gear, therefore your quiver and bow and go out into the country to hunt some game for me.
Luke Chapter 22:36
Now, however, the man who has a purse must carry it, the same with the traveling bog. And the man without a sword must sell his coat and buy one.
Do we get political? You bet. It’s long past the time when we can just mind our own business and quietly go hunting. We are under attack from the left in this nation. If we do not get political, we will lose our lifestyle and freedom and leave nothing for our children.
It is time to stop the lies the liberals and the press have created and start living our lives as we were meant to by God and our Founding Fathers. It is time to go back to God, Family, and Country and take this great nation back.
This column will follow those beliefs.
And now for this Sunday’s Packers/Miami game the Las Vegas book has the Packers a 3.5 favorite. They are also predicting the Packers take the NFC North 11-5.
Miami is 2-2 and 3rd in the AFC East. Last week Miami QB Ryan Tannehill had a 93.7 rating however they played the Raiders who are ranked last in the NFL at 32. This week the Miami ranks 24 down 2 points from last week when they were 22. They dropped 2 points even with the win against the Raiders.
The Packers as you know are 3-2 and tied for 1st with Detroit in the NFC North. The Pack ranks 9 up 3 from last week. The rushing game seems to be back which also made it easier for Rodgers to pass for three TDs breaking the 200 passing TDs in only 99 game beating Brett Favre’s record. Look for the Packers to beat the Dolphins and easily make the point spread.
The Lions are a 2-point favorite in Minnesota and are ranked at 14 down 6 from last week’s ranking of 8. The Vikings ranked at 25 down from 24 last week. This season with the exception of last week they have done well against the spread. Add the humiliating defeat of last week except the Viking to do well at home, however I think the Lions still beat the Viking and stay tied with the Pack.
The Pack is going to have to win Sunday and the next two games against Carolina and New Orleans going into their bye week on November 2.
Next week I ask the question how big did the DNR blow it by lowering the Wolf Quota this season? For the past three weeks I have received over a half dozen dogs being killed by wolves news releases from the DNR. What was the DNR thinking?
