Letter: An Open Letter to the Citizens of Wisconsin From Brad Schimel

To the Editor-
I’m proud to be law enforcement’s choice for attorney general and to be the only candidate in this race who has bipartisan support (see www.Dems4Schimel.com for details).

In fact, with the endorsement of Milwaukee County Democratic Sheriff David Clarke this weekend, 90 elected law enforcement leaders in Wisconsin, including ten elected Democratic sheriffs and district attorneys and one Independent, have put their trust in me as the right choice to lead the Department of Justice.

I have bipartisan support and I am law enforcement’s choice for attorney general because I place public safety over politics. My oath is to the law and our Constitutions, not any political party, and I’ll lead the Department of Justice with a commitment to the rule of law.

My opponent wishes to use the department to pursue an activist agenda … picking which laws to enforce. While my opponent has announced a target list of people and businesses she intends to sue if she were elected, I’ve announced comprehensive plans to fight domestic violence, the heroin epidemic, human trafficking, child abuse and more.

I encourage you to go to BradSchimel.com to find out more about my plans. In fact, I hope you go to my opponent’s website as well to compare my comprehensive, nonpartisan plans with what she’s proposing. I want voters, all voters, to make an informed decision.

There are stark contrasts in this race.

Those Democrat, Republican, and Independent elected district attorneys and sheriffs who support me trust me to be the state’s top cop because my concern is public safety in Wisconsin. They know and respect the fact that I was recognized as the Wisconsin Professional of the Year for my work to defend and protect women and children who were the victims of abuse and assault. I also have support from the Wisconsin Professional Police Association, the Milwaukee Police Association, the Milwaukee Police Supervisors’ Organization, the Wisconsin Troopers Association, the West Allis Professional Police Association, the Wisconsin Lodge Fraternal Order of Police, and the International Association of Police Associations because they know I’m the best choice for a safe Wisconsin.

This race is about respect for the rule of law, not about me. But I’ll tell you a little bit about myself so you know why I approach my job the way I do.

As a frontline prosecutor for 25 years, I have worked thousands of cases, and kept thousands of criminals off the street. Don’t believe the shady ads by shady out-of-state groups that lie about my record, I’ll put my track record as a tough prosecutor up against anyone in the state.

As Waukesha County District Attorney, I’m currently the chief law enforcement officer in the county and supervise one of the state’s largest district attorneys offices, with approximately four-dozen staff.

As a husband and father of two girls, I am committed to leaving Wisconsin cleaner, stronger, healthier, more prosperous and safer.

I’ve served on numerous boards, committees, and task forces that have affected not just my county, but have had a positive impact statewide. I serve as an instructor in the Criminal Justice Department at my local technical college and I regularly teach at conferences throughout Wisconsin for prosecutors, law enforcement officers, teachers, child protection workers and medical professionals.

I will focus on the rule of law, no matter whether the law was passed by Democratic or Republican lawmakers.

I’m ready to be the state’s top cop, and the attorney that defends Wisconsin.

Whether I’ve earned your vote or not, you can be assured that if I am fortunate enough to serve as your attorney general, my allegiance will be to the law, not any partisan agenda or personal ideology.

I will continue to put public safety ahead of politics to achieve my goal of a safer Wisconsin for you and your family.

Sincerely,
Brad Schimel
