Kwik Trip to Add Plover Location

Officials in Plover have paved the way for a new Kwik Trip gas station on Highway 54.
Construction on the $5 million project will likely begin next spring, according to Village Administrator Dan Mahoney, who added the new store will encompass an entire block surrounded by Plover Road and Washington and Madison avenues.
“They (Kwik Trip) basically bought the entire block and bought the south side of the next block also, but have no plans for that at this time,” Mahoney said. The new project is one of several slated to begin in 2015, and Mahoney said it will likely spur additional growth on the village’s south side.
“One of the reasons we like the concept of the south side of the Plover Road being developed is because it will help redevelop the south side of the street, because of the traffic generated by Kwik Trip,” he said. “We’re kind of excited about that.”
In late summer Richard Holden, the village’s community development director, said the economic growth in community by and large saw little direct impact from the Great Recession of 2008 until this year.
“Even when the economy, nationwide, was struggling, we were still having a good year here,” Holden said. “This is the first year it’s been kind of slow. Some of the projects we’ve been working on with developers this year, for some reason a lot of them decided to wait until 2015.”
He added he was unsure if some of the delays were based on financial or tax benefits to developers, or whether investors wanted more assurance of Plover’s fiscal strength before setting down roots.
One of Plover’s strengths, he said, is the village has a lot of room to breathe and grow.
“There will probably be some kind of development out on County Trunk B in 2015, and in Village Park we’re expecting two developments- one commercial and one residential,” he said. “The one thing we’re short on is developed single family lots- not short on land, but the developed sites.”
