“We’re going to be facing some difficult decisions in the coming years as we try to recoup our depleted debt capacity. The city has done more borrowing in the past 7 years then we ever have. We’re going to focus on paying that off as soon as we can to free up funding for our future needs. There are a few large project on the horizon and we’ll need resources for them. My focus is going to be on maintaining the services we have, reducing our debt, continuing a slow, but steady growth for the area and most importantly, treating people fairly.”
Mike has served as the Chairman of the Portage County Land Conservation Committee, Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission liaison, Chairman of the Portage County Solid Waste committee and the County Judicial and General Government committee. He is a past President of the County Parks commission, and serves on the City Parks commission, City Personnel Committee, Municipal Court Oversight Committee and Public Protection Committees. He is also a board member of the Izaak Walton league, and Prime Water Anglers.
“We’ve managed to accomplish quite a lot since I began in 2004, but there’s so much more that can be done. I’ve helped bring about the City’s first dog park, increased the efficiency of our waste pickup, and added park land and conservation easements to protect our water supply and other resources. I’ve helped keep and bring jobs and businesses to the community, with companies like Service Cold Storage, keeping Berkshire Hathaway in Stevens Point, and helped new small businesses open in the City. I’ve voted to help keep a stable tax rate and maintain our services, and help keep our recreation programs.” said Wiza
