John J. Wayer, Jr., 80, of Stevens Point, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, Nov. 28, 2014, at Maple Ridge Memory Care in Plover.
He was born on Dec. 9, 1933, in Stevens Point, to the late John and Martha (Dudzik) Wayer. He attended St. Peter Grade School and was a graduate of P.J. Jacobs High School.
John served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956. On July 13, 1957, his marriage to Dorothy Grulkowski took place at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galloway.
He worked at the Stevens Point Division of Consolidated Papers, starting as a machinist in 1956 and retiring in the boiler room in 1995.
He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, nature, bowling, football and he was a big fan of NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Stevens Point; daughters, Linda (Dave) Wojtalewicz of Stevens Point, and Lori (Dave) Norrgran of Plover; sons, James (Anna) Wayer and Jeff Wayer both of Stevens Point; grandchildren, Justin (Larecia) Wojtalewicz, Nathan (Kimm) Wojtalewicz, James Wayer, Jr., Amanda Wayer, Austin and Wesley Norrgran; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey Wayer.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home, 703 Second Street, Stevens Point, with Pastoral Minister Dwaine Habrat officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Full military honors will follow the service at the funeral home.
