Downtown Businesses Hosting Travel Giveaway
By Lisa Pett
Stevens Point’s Association of Downtown Businesses is sponsoring a holiday drawing for a $1500 travel gift certificate from Global Travel.
The voucher is good for an airfare and hotel package and many downtown businesses are participating as registration locations for the grand prize drawing which will be held on December 23rd at the Christmas tree on the Downtown Square.
“The promotion is a great way to get shoppers downtown. It’s important that people know we’re here and open for business,” said John Dolan, President of the Association. “Anyone can register at any of the participating downtown businesses as many times as they like.”
Dolan estimates that at least 40 businesses are participating and on December 23rd, one name will be drawn from each location for a list of finalists. One of those finalists will receive the grand prize voucher.
No purchase is required to fill out a registration and there is no limit to how many businesses each person can register at. However, an individual is only eligible for the final drawing one time and they may only register one time per visit.
The contest was the brainchild of Troy Hojnaki, owner of Graffiti’s Pub and ADB board member, and is being well publicized on the ADB’s website and Facebook page.
As part of the promotion, each business is allowed to draw names for to give away prizes of their own. Those chanced to win and the times of those drawings may vary but the winners are put back into the drawing for the grand prize on December 23rd.
The contest is not limited to retail shops. All businesses downtown are eligible to participate as a registration site.
At noon on December 23rd, ADB members will draw for the finalists at all participating locations. The final drawing will then take place at 3pm on the Square but participants need not be present to win. All finalists and the grand prize winner will be announce on the Association’s Facebook page.
Dolan says businesses have been steady downtown with plenty of shoppers.
“There is plenty of parking down here,” he said, “and my business has been growing this year.”
Margaret O’Connor Govett, owner of Girls in Pearls clothing boutique said she hasn’t noticed an increase in customers asking about the contest.
“[But] Black Friday was very busy and so was Small Business Saturday.”
She is very excited about the promotion, though. “Who wouldn’t want to win that prize and go somewhere warm?”
