Entrance to St. Mike’s ER to Close Temporarily
For the City-Times
Due to construction, beginning December 19, 2014 the emergency department and urgent care (ED/UC) entrance at Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital will be relocated to an entrance off Illinois Avenue, east of the hospital building. All other non-emergency related visits should continue to utilize the main hospital entrance.
A section of the main parking lot at Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital, north of the building, has been designated by red striping to accommodate parking for ED and urgent care patients.
This is a change from ED/UC patients currently entering the ED/UC from south entrance of the building and parking under the parking structure off of Simms Avenue. On December 19, this will no longer be an option and ED/UC patients will be required to enter off the Illinois Avenue entrance.
“Safety is our top priority with this project,” shared Cherrie Pavelec-Marti, Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital Vice President of Facilities. “We have amplified our safety measures for this change by adding more security cameras, new signage, and increased security patrols as a means to safely and securely reroute our emergency and urgent care patients through the new Illinois Avenue entrance.”
Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital offers a website and information line dedicated to monthly updates such as the change in the ED entrance. Maps highlighting the new entrance to the ED and urgent care are located on the hospital’s construction website found at www.ministryhealth.org/stptbuild.
Hospital leaders remind the public that the Emergency Department and Urgent Care will remain open during construction providing the same 24 hour around the clock care that is currently available and that Plover Urgent Care is also available for urgent care needs.
Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital announced plans to renovate and construct a new Emergency Department (ED) and Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) in August 2013. Construction officially began in October of 2013.
The project requires a total investment of $18.5 million to upgrade the original space constructed in 1985 and continue to meet expectations and demands for service. The anticipated completion date of the entire project is late 2015.
The Emergency Department at Ministry Saint Michael’s is the busiest within the Ministry system. Originally constructed to accommodate 27,000 visits annually, the ED currently treats nearly 40,000 patients each year.
When fully completed, the project will create a new, no-wait emergency department that brings together resources from key portions of the emergency department with surgical preparation and recovery to create a more efficient and enhanced patient care experience.
