Letter: Thanks to Council for Keeping Edgewater
To the Editor-
Abraham Lincoln’s words still inspire today: “Public sentiment is everything. With public sentiment, nothing can fail. Without it, nothing can succeed.”
Thanks to the Stevens Point City Council members who voted at the October meeting not to sell Edgewater Manor. The residents would like to thank you.
Candlewood management can now fill the vacant apartments.
I encourage you to stop in at Edgewater Manor, and look it over. Take the elevator and look at the second and third floor. Each floor has a large lounge and the halls are very wide. A kind lady showed an apartment on the second floor. The apartments are very gorgeous with great views. The apartment complex’s curb appeal will be enhanced with future landscaping. The back of the building has a beautiful courtyard facing the Wisconsin River. Stop in and look it over.
We appreciate the development authority’s decision to continue with the 55 and up age restriction for tenants and renewing Candlewood’s management agreement. We anticipate they will follow through with the architectural studies and funding they have discussed, doing complete repairs and updates the property needs.
Negative remarks about the apartment’s future do not help Candlewood to increase occupancy.
Edgewater had a long history of a waiting list. If Edgewater Manor were to be sold, what would City Hall do? $1.5 million? Pay off the debt, tear down the mall, haul it to the dump. Cleaning up contaminated soil, pay off the lawsuit.
The election is over. Can we forget parties? Let us all be Americans and do what is right for our nation. Hopefully we have newly elected representatives with integrity and morals.
Wisconsin elected Gov. Scott Walker for the third time in four years. His last Republican predecessor, Gov. Tommy Thompson, was the only governor to serve four terms.
Government is our business. What will you choose: improving our nation with a revival, or God’s judgment? Our nation is in bad shape; working together we can save it.
