Despite the field of puddles along the ice, a handful of anglers on Monday braved mild temperatures and a melting ice pack for a chance to catch some fish from Springville Pond.
Winter weather started out unseasonably cold but milder temps have melted most of the area’s snow and forcing local winter sports areas, including sledding hills, to temporarily close.
Officials from the Dept. of Natural Resources warn outdoor enthusiasts to make sure at least 2 inches of clear, solid ice are present prior to walking on lakes and rivers, and also advise people fish in pairs.
