Top Mathematics Students Honored at UW-Stevens Point

Top mathematics students from area high schools were honored at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point through the 45th Annual Central Wisconsin Mathematics League competition.

 

Students from 50 Central Wisconsin schools competed in the categories of algebra, geometry and advanced mathematics in the first of three meets. The next meets will be held Jan. 21 and March 26, with a year-end banquet held May 5.

The league is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance, Sentry Insurance and Travel Guard, and is coordinated by faculty members of the Department of Mathematical Science at UW-Stevens Point.

The following honorees are listed by hometown:

Abbotsford        Abbotsford High School – Tyler Kunze, first place geometry; Ray Carlson, first place algebra

Auburndale       Auburndale High School – second place school size three; Luke Olsen, first place algebra; Cody Gehrke, third place advanced problems

Baraboo             Baraboo High School – second place school size one; Chase Downing, first place geometry

Laconia              Laconia High School – first place school size three; Joshua Yates, first place geometry; Craig Schneider, second place algebra; John Tilstra, second place advanced problems

Marathon          Marathon High School – Gunnar Fredrickson, first place advanced problems

Medford             Medford High School – Jessica Pai, second place algebra

Minocqua          Lakeland Union High School – third place school size two; Kav Fitzpatrick, third place algebra; Vansh Jain, first place advanced problems

Nekoosa             Nekoosa High School – first place school size two; Karlee Weiler, second place geometry; Ryan Larson, first place algebra

Omro                 Omro High School – second place in school size two; Josh Hogan, first place geometry; Mitchell Crowley, second place geometry

Pittsville             Pittsville High School – Trevor Winterhack, first place geometry; Luke Denniston, first place geometry (tie)

Plainfield           Tri-County High School– first place in school size four; Brooke Hopkins, first place geometry; Payton Laporte, first place algebra; Matthew Nigh, second place advanced problems; Quincy Pfaff, second place advanced problems (tie)

Port Edwards    John Edwards High School – third place in school size four

Rosholt               Rosholt High School – Alex Frasch, third place geometry

Schofield            D.C. Everest Senior High School– first place in school size one and highest score overall; Kasey Stack, third place geometry; Cade Gelhar, first place algebra; Matthew Carter, second place algebra; Dylan Sebo, third place, advanced problems.

Stevens Point     Stevens Point Area Senior High School, third place school size one; Thomas Felt, first place geometry

Stratford            Stratford High School —third place school size three; Jacob Danen, third place algebra; Mark Wenzel, third place advanced problems

Waupaca           Waupaca High School – Cole Pankratz, second place advanced problems; Ryan Weise, second place advanced problems (tie)

Wausau             Wausau West High School – Harrison Green, third place algebra; Josh Stoecker, first place advanced problems

Wis. Rapids       Assumption High School – second place in school size four; Leah Becker, third place algebra; Paul Jin, first place advanced problems

Wis. Rapids       Lincoln High School – Benjamin Ontl, first place advanced problems
