Sentry Classic Wraps Up With Awards

By Ken McKenzie
The 43rd edition of the Sentry Holiday Basketball Classic once again fueled the memory banks of athletes, coaches and fans alike. Local boys’ teams of Amherst, Pacelli and SPASH each logged twin wins in their efforts on the UWSP hardwood.
Amherst boys bested Elk Mound, 48-24, and then edged G.B. NEW Lutheran, 52-50. Pacelli downed G.B. NEW Lutheran 69-61 and then staged a most memorable comeback in overcoming a 19-point deficit that began the fourth quarter to eke out a 55-54 win over Elk Mound. SPASH handily took care of their competitive foes in this classic, defeating Sussex Hamilton, 59-21 and downing Fond du Lac, 76-44.
The local girls’ teams were somewhat less successful with Amherst girls going 1-1 with a 50-44 win over G.B. NEW Lutheran but dropping a hard-fought battle with Mosinee, 40-34. Pacelli girls dropped a 49-16 decision to Mosinee and battled hard before losing to G.B. NEW Lutheran, 51-43. SPASH girls came up short against DePere, 76-52, and suffered a similar outcome against Green Bay Southwest, 69-53.
