Stevens Point to See Primary in February

By Brandi Makuski
City leaders on Thursday approved holding a primary for the spring election for mayor and three aldermanic spots.
All six mayoral candidates- Alex Kochanowski, Barb Jacob, Tony Patton, Bon Larson, Jerry Moore and Mike Wiza- all returned nomination papers last week. The city does not carry an ordinance automatically triggering a primary with three or more candidates, so the City Council had to formally approve holding a Feb. 17 primary election. According to City Clerk John Moe, the primary election will cost the city about $12,000.
Six city districts are also up for election, including all odd-numbers districts and District 2- which is being filled temporarily following former Alderwoman Joanne Suomi’s death late last year.
