Carita “Rita” Onstad, 77

Carita “Rita” Onstad, age 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 25, 2015 at St. Michael s Hospital.
A Celebration of Christian Victory Service for Rita will held at 2:00 PM on Friday January 30, 2015 at Divine Word Lutheran Church in Plover. Pastor Scott Wolfram will officiate. Friends and relatives will gather to share memories from Noon until the time of services Friday at the church. Shuda Funeral Services is assisting the family.
Rita was born October 28, 1937 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of Paul and Betty (Ballard) Cornwell. Rita’s primary education was in Paoli, IN. She attended high school at Gulf Park Junior College in Gulf Port, MS. Her college education was at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. It was in Madison that she met and married Richard Onstad, the couple divorced in 1980.
Rita worked in various roles during her life, but the most enjoyment she had was being a loving, hardworking mother of seven boys whom she raised in Poynette, WI. She was active in PTA, booster clubs, and many other support clubs for her boys.
She moved to Stevens Point in 1993, and worked in local bakery departments until retirement. She was active with the Portage County Aging & Disability Council, and the Nutrition Program Advisory Council of Portage County. She was a Christian and a member of Divine Word Lutheran Church. Rita possessed a unique strength of caring for others and held a positive attitude towards life.
Rita is survived by her 7 sons: Richard (Pamela); Robert (Dawn); Ronald (Angela); Reid (Diane); Roy (Jonna); Roger (Sadhana); RP (Kimberly). Her 2 sisters: Patt Cornwell and Paula Koss. 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Pamela.
