Photo of the Day: Moving on up…to the North Side?

The electronic message board in front of Stevens Point Fire Station #1 could soon have a new home.
City leaders on Monday will consider whether to relocate the sign in an attempt to declutter the intersection of Franklin and Division streets. Concerns for safety have become a bigger priority since a pedestrian was struck by a motorist at the intersection last October, leaving city officials brainstorming for the quickest and least expensive fix for the roadway ahead of a planned major overhaul of the Bus. 51 corridor.
Interim Mayor Gary Wescott said while several options will be presented to city leaders Monday night, he hopes the sign is moved to the front setback of the Stevens Point Area Convention & Visitors Bureau at 340 Division Street.
“That is a normal place to put that thing, especially when you’re coming into the community- it’s a gateway to the community,” Wescott said. “You put that message board there, people are stopping there to pick up information about the community. It just seems like a good place to put it.”
City leaders will consider moving the sign at tonight’s standing committee meetings at the Lincoln Center, 1519 Water Street, at 6 PM. The public is welcome.
