Local Vet Receives High Honor

One local veteran has been honored by the Disabled American Veterans.
Michael “Gunner” Pohl, of Plover, has been named 2014 DAV Adjutant of the Year. Pohl, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, has held the post for over 10 years and its the third time he’s received the award.
“Gunner is always there when there is a problem or a veterans needs some help,” said Frank Woiak, commander of DAV Shuman Heink Chapter 30.
Pohl belongs to several area veteran organizations, including the VFW Post 10262, American Legion Post 6, American Veterans Post 1051, Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 185 in Polonia and Fleet Reserve Branch 238 in Plover. Pohl also serves as treasurer of the Portage Co. Allied Veterans Council.
“It is an honor just to be nominated by the chapter,” Pohl said, “and then to receive the award from your peers.”
