Council Formally Opposes UW Cuts

City Times Staff
The Stevens Point City Council on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution opposing Gov. Scott Walker’s proposed budget cuts to the UW System.
As part of the 2015-17 state budget, Walker proposed cutting $300 million from the state’s university system. Including discretionary spending, the cuts would reduce the state aid by about 13 percent.
The resolution is largely symbolic but affirms the city’s opposition to the governor’s office. Interim Mayor Gary Wescott said the resolution was “just a tiny reflection of the true value of the university”.
