Mayoral candidates Jerry Moore (left) and Mike Wiza (right) share a light moment before being questioned at a candidate forum hosted by the Portage Co. Business Council.
Four candidates attended the forum on February 6, which was held only for members of the PCBC. Moore and Wiza were joined by fellow candidates Bob Larson and Barb Jacob.
Jacob eventually earned 187 votes during the mayoral primary on Feb. 17; Larson brought in 105 votes. Tony Patton, who was absent from the forum because he said he thought the meeting was at 7:30 PM- instead of 7:30 AM- garnered 290 votes.
Candidate Alex Kochanowski earned 38 votes, despite having withdrawn from the race weeks earlier.
Moore brought in 368 voters, while Wiza earned 1,491 votes.
Moore and Wiza, who have similar views on city issues but differ greatly in terms of personality, now move on to the April 7 election, where voters will decide the city’s next mayor.
