District 5 Candidate Touts Business Experience, Community Life

To the Editor:
I would like to introduce myself as a candidate for the District 5 Alderperson in the upcoming City of Stevens Point primary election this February 17.
I moved to Stevens Point to pursue my education, graduating from Mid-State Technical College in 1999. After obtaining my law degree, my wife, Colleen, and I returned to the area in 2010 as we consider Stevens Point an ideal community to reside and raise a family. Stevens Point offers fantastic educational prospects, a low cost of living, affordable housing, and exceptional public amenities such as the Green Circle Trail.
My experience working as a legislative attorney for the Ho-Chunk Nation has provided me with skills and abilities to thoroughly research difficult financial and political issues and prepare that information in a concise and succinct manner. Through my position I have had the opportunity to work with federal, state, and county governments which has provided me with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities that public officials play in the negotiating of governmental agreements, contracting with vendors, and exploring economic development opportunities.
Further, as a small business owner in Stevens Point, I believe that it is vital to support locally owned businesses. Buying local nurtures businesses which use local resources, employ local workers at decent wages, and serves local consumers. Supporting locally owned businesses is critical in growing a strong economy and tax base.
If I have the privilege to serve as District 5 Alderperson my goals will be to focus on the preservation of Jefferson Elementary School and completion of the playground enhancements and parking area; advocate for local investment in underutilized public land to stimulate business development; and promote a healthy community through the development and maintenance of parks, recreational areas, and bikes lanes.
I consider Stevens Point to be my home, and I’m ready to serve the community.
