SGA Partners with Local Businesses for ‘Bring a Buddy’ Campaign

Going out for a night of drinking? Bring a buddy.
It’s a simple message that members of UWSP’s Student Government Association want to share with patrons of area taverns in an effort to ensure folks get home safely.
The group, along with Daren and Joan Duffey, delivered promotional items like t-shirts, posters and other items promoting the ‘Bring a Buddy’ campaign to area businesses and downtown bars. The items will also contain the phone number of the Safe Ride Home taxi service.
The Duffey’s lost their 21 year-old son Eric in March of 2012. The UWSP ecology major drowned after he left a local bar alone following a night of drinking.
Nine local businesses are pushing the campaign in their establishments; The Basement Brewhaus, Elbow Room, Graffiti’s Sports Pub, Slo’s Place, Partner’s Pub, Politos, Ella’s, Guu’s on Main and The Top Hat Bar.
Maddie Marshall, director of communications and public relations for the Student Government Association, said the group is also providing presentations for undergraduates at UWSP.
“It’s harder to reach older students, which is why it is so important to get into the local establishments,” she said.
