To the Editor-

My name is Sal Cuomo and I am running to be your District 7 representative for the City of Stevens Point.

I came to this community in 1986 to attend UWSP and after graduating in 1991 I made the decision to stay in Stevens Point. Having lived in the area for the last 25 years I wanted to have an opportunity to serve the people of Stevens Point. After learning about Alderman Roger Trzebiatowski’s decision not to seek reelection I was encouraged by several friends and City Council members to campaign for the position.

I am employed as a sales manager with an Appleton-based document imaging company for their branch located in Wausau. I commute to many areas of Central Wisconsin every day. My business experience has given me a different perspective than many on the city council. Namely that decisions made by the city can have the power to have a positive or negative effect. I am pro-business. We have all seen the effect of employers that leave the area or go out of business. Our local employers are an integral part of the community and the city needs to continue to help them thrive.

The city of Stevens Point has several issues that currently need attention:

• Reducing the city debt of $50 million
• Maintaining our roads and recreational areas including our parks and the Green Circle
• Increase the street lighting by Bannach School and the surrounding neighborhoods

My volunteer experience includes Boy Scouting, Operation Bootstrap, and the Stevens Point Elks Lodge. Through these organizations I have worked with veterans, supported Americanism, collected food, and financially supported many children who participate in local athletics.

My ties to the area and public educational system are strong. My daughter is a 2014 SPASH graduate and currently attends UWSP as Physics major and my son is a junior at SPASH who is working toward his Eagle designation in Boy Scouts.

I ask for your vote on April 7th because I have the experience and drive to make fiscally responsible decisions for the city. My focus is to make Stevens Point a more prosperous community.
