Stevens Point Noon Optimist Club has honored Hilirie McLaughlin, a 6th grade student at McDill Elementary School, as the February Youth of the Month Award.
Hilirie is the daughter of Jack and Molly McLaughlin of Stevens Point, WI.
The award is bestowed monthly as part of the club’s Youth Appreciation project.
Hilirie was selected by the club because “she is a fantastic role model to her peers in school and her extracurricular activities”, according to a press release. “She has a positive presence and gentle manner.”
“Hilirie is always one of the first students volunteering to help adults and students,” said teacher Kate Hardina from McDill. “Her academics are very important to her and she takes pride in everything she does.”
The Stevens Point Noon Optimist Club has been honoring local youth through Youth Appreciation for many years. Youth Appreciation is the most popular program sponsored by clubs throughout Optimist International, with more than 2,000 clubs participating each year.
