About 200 people showed up on Saturday to show their support for local Vietnam veterans.
For the second consecutive year Plover VFW Post 10262 hosted a Vietnam Veterans Day celebration at its Hickory Drive headquarters. The event featured a display of veterans’ service photos, as well as a map of Vietnam, where veterans listed the dates and location of their deployments during the war.
Veterans who attended were welcomed with pins and ribbons reading “Thank You” and “Welcome Home”. Students from the criminal justice program at Mid-State Technical College also donated commemorative “Never Forgotten” medallions.
Veterans and their families were also treated to an Italian dinner, followed by music and entertainment.
“This is just a wonderful occasion for us,” said Ron Worthey, a veteran of the Vietnam War. “I’m so glad I was able to make it. You can bet we’ll be spreading the word.”
