About 150 students from SPASH, as well as Ben Franklin and P.J. Jacobs junior high schools, gathered for the district’s annual Jazz Night on Tuesday.
A total of five concerts- SPASH Jazz Ensemble I and II, the Ben Franklin Jazz Ensemble and the P.J.’s Jazz Ensemble, as well as a combined all-district ensemble, performed 15 different pieces, including a jazz version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Performances included solos by several students, including Nick Feist (trumpet, left in photo) and Marcus Morris (tenor sax, standing right in photo).
The concert featured the brass and woodwind staples, as well as standing bass, base and electric guitar players, drummers/percussionists and one gifted pianist, Sam Ginnett (seated, left in photo), and was directed by Dave Poffingarger and Brad Schmidt.
