The Stevens Point School Board on Monday is expected to approve new principals for two schools.
Kelly Snyder-Chase, who has worked in the district since 2008, is slated to take over as Roosevelt Elementary Principal on July 1. She currently works as the district’s coordinator for Response to Intervention (RtI) and was previously a reading teacher for local elementary and junior high students. Snyder-Chase also worked as an elementary school teacher in Milwaukee.
Jon Vollendorf, Ed.D. will take over as the new principal at SPASH, also effective July 1. Vollendorf replaces Mike Devine, who announced his retirement last year.
Vollendorf has been an employee of the district since 1995 and is currently the principal at P.J. Jacobs Junior High School. He previously worked as dean of students, SPASH assistant principal and director of secondary education.
Prior to administrative work Vollendorf was an English teacher at SPASH, and a coach in both the Stevens Point and Shawano Public School districts.
Vollendorf said to was a “privilege and great responsibility” to have been chosen for the spot.
“SPASH always has been- and always will be- a special school,” he said. “I am very thankful for the opportunity to lead such a phenomenal group of students and staff into the future.”
Superintendent Attila J. Weninger said Vollendorf won the spot against two other applicants, John LaFleur, associate principal of Muskego High School, and Ben Franklin Jr. High principal Connie Neegard. Vollendorf was chosen after extensive interviewing and input from staff, students and the community.
Vollendorf’s contract is valid through June 30, 2017. He will earn $113,000. Snyder-Chase has a contract worth $85,000. Her contract is also valid through June 30 of 2017.
